The Canyon 2010 Strategic Plan guides our economic and community development efforts. This plan was developed through input from a diverse group of Canyon residents from Lyons to Idanha.
Transportation:
T1 - Complete the Alternative Transportation Link/Canyon Journeys Trail System
T2 - Enhance CARTS public transportation services throughout the Canyon
Economic – business development:
E1 - Develop a Canyon-wide tourism marketing plan
E2 - Develop integrated Canyon “brand” and marketing ads
E3 - Install “gateway” entrance sculptures
E4 – Support the GMCLAT (Gates-Mill City Leadership Action Team) signage project
E5 – Develop and sustain a local micro-enterprise training program
E6 - Create a Canyon website
E7 - Develop and promote a “Shop Locally” campaign
E8 - Prepare a commercial and industrial market assessment plan
E9 – Offer technical support for downtown revitalization initiatives in each of the
Canyon cities
E10 – Establish a computer training – telecommuting center
E11 - Sponsor small-business forums
E12 - Develop a seasonal marketplace for home-based businesses
E13 - Offer a loan program for storefront renovations
Infrastructure – community development:
I1 - Create a local recycling – salvage facility
I2 - Complete a telecommunications needs assessment and action plan
I3 - Prepare a “brownfield” redevelopment plan
I4 - Conduct regularly scheduled Canyon mayor meetings to share information
and emphasize the linkage between local infrastructure projects
I5 - Support community center development within each of the Canyon cities
I6 – Support physical infrastructure improvements in the Canyon cities
Recreation: (strategies to be determined)
Quality of life (livability – public outreach):
Q1 – Coordinate annual Canyon-wide clean-up event(s)
Q2 - Expand low-interest loan program for low-income housing improvements
Q3 - Create state-of-the-art Canyon-wide community events calendar
Q4 - Initiate Canyon-wide annual celebration of accomplishments
